So Many Languages We Know...

Fluent in Chinese?

How many times in your life have you found yourself saying that you are fluent in this or that foreign language? Reasons for this may be different – you were either trying to impress your strict interviewer eager to work at an international company or boasting your intellectual skills at a date with a girl or a boy of your pipe non-linguistic dreams.

However, in the world of serious business or for instance, when interviewed for work, you should be very careful when saying that you are totally fluent in a certain foreign language for you may be seriously caught and your fluency comments may be reduced to weak basic knowledge...

Being fluent in a certain language is a very serious characteristic feature and most people who try to boast it aren't as perfect as their shows go on telling about their 'perfect' skills. For when you possess perfect fluency regarding a foreign language, you should be close-to-perfect regarding the knowledge of all aspects connected with this language: spelling, grammar, vocabulary, syntax.

In order your fluency not to bear certain pseudo or far-fetched unappealing characteristic features, you should be good at discussing different subjects in the foreign language you are saying you are fluent in. that implies your free ability to communicate with native speakers about art, cinema, medicine, literature, linguistics, military issues and many other specific spheres which suggest your perfect knowledge of a language – your fluency.

They say that we are fluent in a foreign language when we are perfect at swearing and flirting in it. For example, if you state that you are fluent in Chinese, you should be totally responsible for your words and try yourself in swearing and flirting in it. If you fail, try not to show that you are smart ass when you are not in reality and spend precious time on improving yourself instead.

If you want to be genuinely fluent in a certain foreign language, you should perfectionize yourself all the time. Because the language is not a static concept, on the contrary, it's highly dynamic and it's changing all the time. And you should invariably follow these changes if you truly desire your knowledge to be at least close to perfection (if we take into consideration the fact that nothing is perfect in our world...).

Plus, there are such things as slang and (regional) dialects within the boundaries of any language, your perfect fluency suggests staying well-informed regarding these aspects of the language as well. They require much time to go into and sometimes practically represent peculiarities of a new language.

Sometimes it's very healthy and useful to treat your 'fluency' regarding certain foreign languages with a hint at self-criticism for it will help you stay refreshed and always ready to improve yourself contributing greatly to your being fluent in your beloved foreign language.
