So Many Languages We Know...

Self-Teaching

Self-teaching is one of the various and numerous foreign language learning techniques. Its antipode is learning a new language with the help of a teacher or a tutor.

We must say, that self-teaching is a very cost-effective way to master a foreign language for when learning a new language by ourselves we don't have to pay anybody for assistance. But what about the effectiveness of this language learning technique? Is it extremely effective or is it just a waste of your precious time and effort? Let's go into this issue in more detail for superficial view on it may distort our ability to correctly and logically understand it.

On the one hand, self-teaching is out-of-this-worldly effective and requires no extra help from the outer world i.e. no extra money spent on extra assistance hurrah! You do not need any extra assistance when you are talented enough to learn a foreign language by yourself from A to Z.

However, talent is not the only quality you should posses in order to successfully master a new language or two. What other features are extremely helpful in your learning process. See them listed below:

1. Patience. If you are impatient and tend to drop things you have started doing halfway, you will hardly ever be able to learn a foreign language properly.

2. Persistence. If you helplessly give up after experiencing a few hardships, then your chances of becoming another outstanding polyglot are quite small as well.

3. Passion. If you are greatly into things you are occupied with, it means that you will most likely become a professional in your field. If you combine your passion with persistence, that is.

4. Positive thinking. If you are positively 'programmed', it means that you will be able to materialize your thoughts in the process of mastering a foreign language and crown your hard work with success when your ultimate destination is finally reached.

It means that when learning a new language, you are able to decipher all the pronunciation rules of a new 'code', maybe even using certain records and helpful manuals. You are not afraid and are hardworking enough to improve your knowledge each and every day consistently taking great effort to do it.

On the other hand, when you aren't talented when it's about learning foreign languages, your self-teaching attempts will most likely result in mere waste of time and effort. You will be exhausted without having learnt anything constructive.

On the contrary, your self-teaching attempts may even confuse you greatly, and demotivate you in the direction of wanting to learn anything but them horrible foreign languages. This outcome is highly undesirable, that's why try to evaluate your real possibilities and your real potential at once before learning a foreign language.

That's why in this talentless case you need to find an efficient assistant to help you acquire the necessary linguistic knowledge in order him (or her) to motivate and teach you well enough, in order the teaching process to show positive results over time. You can also combine self-teaching with being guided by your human helper (when you aren't able to self-teach yourself regarding certain difficult notions).

Self-teaching is helpful, but only when you find the right balance and criterion of measure according to which you will make the most of this tricky learning technique.
